I just purchased 8 sq ft of black Oralite Reflexite conspicuity tape.

This is the same reflective material they put on emergency response vehicles such as police cars and ambulances. The black color is benign during the day but lights up brilliant white at night. Black has been out of stock everywhere until just now. See the example photo below. It is impressive stuff.

https://signtradesupplies.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/800x800/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/e/refelctive_black.gif

I will be doing a few wheelsets but will have quite a bit left over and would be happy to provide some to anyone who has genuine need, anyone who trains or commutes at night. It is relatively inexpensive and I'm not looking for money. I would be happy just knowing that other local riders are safer for it.

I'll post some photos and contact information when the product arrives.

I have been thinking about buying some of this for the wheels of my commuter bike

https://www.amazon.com/gp/mobile/udp/B004JGNT18

but wasn't sure how noticeable the white triangle pattern would be during the day. I haven't been able to find anything else in black that gets good reviews for refectivity. Also I might buy some in blue to put on the blue frame but the chances of the shades of blue matching up enough to not ghetto up the bike are slim.

I would be interested in seeing how what you get compares and maybe getting some of your leftovers if you are happy with it. Thanks!

Travis,

The Reflexite V92 tape linked you linked and what I purchased are the same material.

I'll let you know when it comes in.

Not tape, but Continental reflective sidewalls are surprisingly effective.
I got mine by accident, finding a 'good deal' on GP4000x28s.
One evening after a ride, the setting sun reflecting off the tire was hard to look at, it was so bright.
As you can see in the video, they are quite TRON like in effect.

The extra light from reflective sidewalls must come in handy when fixing the all the flats GP4000's seem to get.

Very thoughtful of them.

The Reflexite arrived and it looks nothing like the photo in the links above. There is no triangle pattern.

It is semi-gloss black under normal light and all but invisible on black wheels but lights up very bright at night when light is shined directly at it. The second photo is poor, shot at night, but I tried to capture four 2" strips on each wheel.

Text/call 678.462.6698 or send a PM if you have legitimate need, commute or ride at night and want some.
