Both routes are shown starting on Shadow Pines, but could be ridden from Mayfield Rd too. I should point out that I avoid going up Mayfield because of the climb over the blind hump.

Both options have fairly short sections on Ridge Rd, both of these sections have a slight downhill bias when ridden anti-clockwise.
If ridden clockwise there are pull-offs for both left turns to organize a safe crossing. As most of you know I always try to avoid HTLTs (High Traffic Left Turns). The longer section on RIdge is similar in distance to the Ridge short-cut for the Sky Loop.

In the past there was a gate on Peg Cole, at the bottom but I think it has been open... perhaps someone might know?

Rest Stop Options
There is a short road Ty Cole that also links Marshall Fuller to Hwy61. There are turn-outs there to facilitate crossing Hwy61 safely and utilizing the shopping center at the intersection for a rest stop. Also, the usual store rest stop could be bypassed with a stop in New Georgia (the intersection).
A better rest stop would be the Marathon station at the end of Townsend.

Connecting to Hitchcock from the west does present some safety issues as it is a left-turn onto Hitchcock which would be a HTLT hazard, so the intention would be to link into the classic reverse Challenge Loop.

Any interest??? Plz share your thoughts.

Tomorrow is TBD, but we could do this.
Forrest and I are riding from Florence at 9am if anyone would like to join.
Hopefully I'll be feeling better than Saturday.

Forrest, John and I rode this loop on Labor Day.
It worked out well, except, there is no shade at the Marathon station.
We hung-out under the roof for the gas pumps.

Our excursion route was interesting. Thought I had some pictures (time lapse), but I errantly managed to get the camera recording 1080p/60. This filled the 32GB chip and over wrote the images from the more interesting portion of the ride with the lake and lily pad photos, gravel section and water crossing.

The excursion route was an attempt to find a connector to Friendship Ch. View the full image and you can see that we were very close to achieving the goal. There's actually a second lake there now and the excursion road ran between them.

Plentiful refreshments for Forrest at the Marathon. Orange Jubilee appears to be the most popular.
