January 1 was a day to go down in history. It was a day that I have been waiting for as a father and praying for as a cyclist. The day one (or both) of my kids say to me, “Daddy…can I take the training wheels off my bike?” The sky opened up and the sun would shine down brighter than any other day. (except my wedding and when both of the kids were born)
Anyway, I had read countless articles and discovered than a good transition from training wheels to riding a two wheeler was to take the training wheels off and take the pedals off to create a run-bike.(darn that NORCO…I had a plan for that!) This is a wonderful idea and my kids spent about an hour non-stop run-biking around the cul-de-sac. Then they both wanted the pedals back on and voila’ instant TOUR CHAMPIONS! Just kidding local races with their dad up and down the street will be just fine.
SOOOOOOOOO, they both did not want to have anything to do with the trailer.
SOOOOOOOOO, the trailer was turned into a tool trailer.
The kids really don't mind because now they don't have to carry anything!
NOW LETS BUILD SOME TRAILS!

Hard rake
axe
hoe
shovel
small Mcleod
chain saw
gas can
loppers
bow saw
machete
repair case
first aid
Duct tape
boots
long pants
gloves
hat
I was able to design the trailer so I can still use the rain fly!
If anybody has an old kid trailer and they want to donate, first to someone that kids and then to Paulding Cycling to create tool trailers send me a PM.

Good post/story Crockett.
I liked how it tied into the run-bike story and just posting the links to the photos let Snap popup just the thumbnails to the images. That will make a big difference to those still using dialup.
Your a good dad, I've seen you out haulin' the kids in that trailer several times, but you'll have your hands full now. Before you know they'll be wantin' a bubble gum pink Guerciotti fixer!
Where are the pix of kids on the run-bikes? |

| Why don't you donate the tailer to some needy cycler, person etc. Instead of ruining it like you did, some people arn't moneybags like you are, thats exactly what I did with mine, I gave it to someone, so there little champions will have a place to ride, and not break there bank.. Just an idea |

Hampsten.....
you have no idea how many miles I have on the trailer....I would feel uncomfortable donating it to anyone... besides all I did was build a frame that fits inside the trailer and can be removed. Also I did not spend a dime building that trailer. I got the wood from my dad and the tools are tools that I got from the same place.
Why don't you spend more time being positive and ask questions to get your facts straight before you post your nonsense. |

My Facts Straight, I have 3 kids, and I know the whole, ahhhh I took the training wheels off my sons bike for the first time thing, you almost had a tear in my eye, wait, no you didn't, and don't start badword about comments, this is a forum you know, thats what there for, and I'm not neg by any means, you would have to put some "Heavy Duty" miles on one of those trailers which I doubt you do, since your a family man like myself, I was just trying to help, don't get your lycra in a wad over a helpful comment, because if you want to have a comment battle, be my guest, because I'll go toe to toe with you here, on a bike whatever, this is the last time I'll try to be of any help to you guys that sit and get stiffies over watching trail building videos......
Like I said, I'm not out to piss you off, just don't make dumb comments, because once again I like what you guys do, but shake off your geekyness and ride your bikes... |

I am far from a geek and I don't do pissing matches. I do ride my bike as much as I can.
You must get paid to ride your bike...
Yes I did put some heavy duty miles on that trailer that was the only way I could ride for a while and if you read the end of the post I did offer trailers to people that had kids first.
Whatever I will go ride my bike and I hope you do too.... |

This one humors me.
So... we have someone who is upset because Crockett converted his trailor. Maybe he could have donated it...
Donated...
He donates all of the time. He donates his personal time all of the fricken time building trails for all of us to ride our mountain bikes on. He donates his time mapping routes for us to ride our road bikes on. He donates his time exploring new routes for our Mixed Loop rides. Everyone in this area is well aware of the donations that Crockett has made. And his trailor... He shows that he is smart enough to construct something that allows him to donate his time more effectively while he works on these trails for everyone else to use.
So... anybody out there who considers themselves a cyclists knows how valuable folks like Crockett is to area cycling.
So... If your only donation you can make to cycling is that you can pedal fast and talk crap on forums, you need to go on a long ride and think about some things.
If you are curious about what I do for cycling, I can give you some people's numbers with cycling charities to call.
I am going to get off of my soap box now and go for a ride. I am getting ready to start pulling my own trailor.

Amen!
Anybody that knows diddly about Crockett knows he's the man. Hampsten, on the other hand, has proven himself to be a wiseass and a wannabe.

Hampsten,
Couple of things that bother me here.
If you knew anything about Crocket you would know he is very generous with his time and energy.
He was the driving force behind PACO and took the time to map out and paint four or five local routes around here that people use all the time. He also took the time to ride with me (wait for me) when I got back into cycling after twelve years off the bike. Much appreciated.
Now he is a key member of the new SORBA club in Paulding and has spent a great deal of his time (along with Maniac, jrm and others I am sure I am forgetting) creating the trail alongside the Comet so everyone can use.
Also, I know he has donated bikes he rebuilds and gives to folks who can't afford them. You should see his garage, filled with old bikes waiting for homes.
As for riding skills, he can match up well with 99% of all weekend warriors out there. And is hands down the best possom jumper I have ever seen!!
Probably the funniest thing I have seen on a bike.
Second thing that bothers me is why are you criticizing him for converting his kids trailer into an equipment trailer? IT'S HIS AND HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS WITH IT!!!!! Where do you think we live, some socialist / comunist country in Europe or Asia? It is a trailer, so stop and think before you make personal attacks.

| Crockett......thanks for all you do and will continue to do for cycling in the paulding area. From PACO to Paulding cycling to building trails you have put more into helping other cyclist in this area than anyone I know. I also have seen a great balance in your cycling and commitment with your family. You have helped me learn more about cycling and have helped me with parts. And you blow me away on your single speed bike!!! By the way the trailer you put together is way too cool! See ya tj |
