Left me a phone message Monday morning.

He tried to ride the Silver Comet Trail Sunday on a mtb.
Said it was an icy mess with trees down everywhere.
I suspect it will take the counties most of the week to get it cleared.

It's now Thursday.
Does anyone have any updates on the condition of Silver Comet?

Cobb County is clear as several friends have reported to me. All trees, big branches, etc have been removed, and the trail appears to have been blown off in most places. The bridges are still icy, so you may need to walk them.

Paulding is another story. PATH reported yesterday that the trail west of Hiram was unrideable with trees down and "damage" that is being repaired. I wonder if the concrete itself was damaged. Friend said that once he hit Paulding County there was a lot of little debris on the trail.

Update from Rick:
As of Thursday evening.
Cobb County section of the Silver Comet Trail looked great.
Paulding was still a mess.

I went out on Wed and it was a complete mess. A lot of trees are still down and still plenty of ice. The cobb side was spotless.

Any brave soul riding west of Hiram, or riding from Rockmart today, any updated trail conditions would be appreciated. I hope to come out tomorrow, but if it’s still bad, I may opt to save myself the 60+ mile roundtrip drive!

The trail is definitely still a mess in Paulding County. It's evident the instant you cross Isley-Stamper as the Cobb County side is perfectly clear and suddenly there are leaves and branches and trees down all over the trail. We did ride out to the Jennifer Ewing memorial so it is passable that far but there's a lot of crap on the trail.

Thanks for the update. Guess it will be indoor riding. Riding with debris is no fun and not real safe riding alone. Hope for better conditions next weekend!
