I'm in the early stages of planning a route from Cumming to Burnt Mountain and return. I'd rather not reverse course at the top of the mountain and return.
One of the options appears to be to continue southwest to Jasper turning left on Cove Road and back to Steve Tate Road. I see that there is a mile long rather steep climb early on, but what I'm really asking about is traffic on a Saturday morning. Is Cove road viable for a group of experienced cyclists?

Two probs with going into Jasper.
Steep high traffic climb on Burnt Mtn Rd into town.
The lower section of Cove is VERY treacherous.

From 136 take Grandview across to Cove.
I recall it being scenic, but it's been many years.
There's a new Dollar General at Cove and Grandview now.
Google Street View still shows the old General Store that was there.

I agree with Geekster, Cove Road and Burnt Mountain into Jasper suck. I would definitely take Grandview. If you're not married to the Cumming start a route with less traffic would be to start in Ball Ground at the little park on Old Dawsonville Road. Head out Old Dawsonville/Jordon Road to Old Nelson, turn right onto Reavis Mountain Road, follow it to Lawson Federal, to Yellow Creek, Steve Tate, 136, Grandview, Cove. If you wanted to get adventuresome you could cut through Coward Mountain Rd (not the best maintained road and it has a pretty twisty downhill at one point but last time I was on it it was OK) , onto 53 briefly, Harrington, Pea Ridge (Forntner is gravel at this end), 4 Mile Church, and take Reavis Mountain back to BG. Something like this:

You will need to double check this as I did it really quickly.

What roads were you planning on taking out of Cumming up to Burnt?

Chris, Robert,
Thank you for your input!
I took Grandview to Cole three years ago. It was ok then.
I was just wondering about going into Jasper. I won't based on your comments.
Thanks again for your comments!
