Supposedly the exact same product pictured below - Castelli Nano Flex 2 bib knickers.

These were sourced from a large internet retailer within three days of each other. The difference in quality is clear.

My guess is that they are two different model year products, that over time Castelli shifted manufacturing location from Romania to China and revised the design downward to save money. My point isn't to rip on Chinese made products but to watch out for manufacturers who release products with initial high quality and then produce cheaper goods over time to save a buck.

Main panel fabric and pad appear identical but the bib mesh is much nicer on the Romanian made product and the difference in stitching is clear. Shame on Castelli.

Romanian on top, Chinese on bottom.

The Chinese version really looks like a counterfeit, inferior product.
Think I'd return it as-such, and scratch that vendor, at least from the A list.

I don't think it is counterfeit but that they are different model years, that the Romanian product is older and manufacturing was moved to China to save money. Definitely inferior though.

backcountry.com has been good to me. "Gearhead" Kyle Livingston will check competitors and give me a price match, sometimes finds manufacturer's deals. He does free 2 day shipping on anything, even a fifty cent bolt. He sends me different sizes to try on with free returns and doesn't charge my card until I tell him which one I want to keep. Kyle was a huge help when I built the Niner.

The Romanian product didn't fit and my finger poked through the bib mesh on the Chinese product so they both went back today. I might order direct from Castelli or from Wiggle. I would like to try the Assos water resistant bibs but they are more expensive and not reviewed as well.
