CVCA will hold the "Up the Creek Without a Pedal XXlV" event on Saturday, May 10, 2014!

Lots of changes this year, but hopefully, riders will have a positive new experience with this event.

First of all, NEW START location in DOWNTOWN ROME. We now have the connector open, so that we can bypass Hwy 27 from downtown. For several years, board members and the tourist center, have wanted out-of-town riders to experience the "real" Rome and not just the outskirts of town. The President of CVCA(not me) decided this is the year to start a new tradition.

Routes will be very similar to the past and include "the Pocket" area, but mileage will be adjusted to account for the move downtown. PRELIMINARY maps show routes of 110 miles(includes the Little Sand Mt. climb), 104 miles(no climb), 72 miles, 54 miles, 30 miles, and family trail ride. Upon returning to downtown, riders will be asked to ride a very short part of the route on the trail to avoid crossing 2 major intersections.

The post-ride meal will be a voucher for a meal at different downtown restaurants.

Unfortunately, prices will increase this year, but there will also be an option for no shirt. Hopefully, the downtown ambiance and good meal will help to compensate for the increase.

Proceeds will benefit local charities and bicycle advocacy.

Still lots of logistics to work out, but wanted to give you some information to dwell on!

Hope to see our faithful participants and some new riders this year! Very Happy

Chris

This may just be the best ride of the year! It is so awesome that some of us would do repeats if Chris Mc offered such a course!

Sign up NOW or ELSE. I mean, when registration opens.

LATEST UPDATE: Route options of 28,50,68,101, and 105 miles

Come enjoy one of Northwest Georgia’s “must do” rides on May 1Oth in Rome, GA. The ride offers 28, 50, 68, 101 & 105 mile route options, all on scenic rural roads with very little traffic. All routes, except the 28 mile, will take riders through the “Pocket area” on one of the “best cycling roads in Georgia.”
The 28 mile route is revised this year and will have less hills.
The 50 and 68 mile routes are mostly flat to gently rolling with a few moderate hills.
The 101 and 105 mile options have also been revised this year, resulting in fewer hills(faster). The 105 mile option includes a short climb over Little Sand Mt. The 101 mile option will NOT include the climb.
All routes will OFFICIALLY end behind the State Mutual Stadium. Riders will be offered drinks/snacks before following the park trail system approximately 3 miles back to Citizens First Bank. These last 3 miles will be a “cool down” ride. Riders must exercise extreme caution on this section and defer to joggers/walkers on the path. Please ride single file on this section! The trail will take you around “The Town Green” and fountains. Take advantage of the fountains to cool off, if it is a hot day.

All routes are fully sagged with well-stocked rest stops approximately every 15-18 miles. Tech support, Ham radio operators, medical, and police support will provide a safe ride for all participants. TIMING CHIPS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR A $5 FEE.
UTC has a NEW downtown Rome start/finish at Citizens First Bank/Synovus on Broad St. Dri-balance T-shirts are an OPTION this year for pre-registered participants and WHILE AVAILABLE after the 4/15 deadline.

The post-ride meal will be your choice of a pre-determined “cyclist’s special” meal at various restaurants on Broad St. and the surrounding area. Tax and gratuity will be included in your voucher. More information will be posted here as it becomes available.
After ride activities include, the “Roman Roast on the River,” with BBQ tasting, arts & crafts, music, food and beer, and a Rome Braves baseball game that evening. Bring the family for a fun day in Rome. Families can ride on the park trails for free.

Local charities such as Boy Scouts, Community Kitchen, Humane Society, and TRED(trails)will be the beneficiaries of the event.

Participants may register by downloading a form from www.cvca.org or by registering on www.Active.com.

Cycling Clubs with 20 or more participants are eligible for a rate of $30/rider before 4/15. This does not include a T-shirt. Contact cmccormick5119@gmail.com for more information.

Still working on details.

Best advice: REGISTER EARLY FOR BEST PRICE.

Thanks,
Chris

Seem that parking may be a problem. The bank parking lot does not look like it will hold the cars that 6-700 riders will bring.

Yes Tom, you're right, the bank parking lot won't hold that many cars. We will be using parking lots at the library, private lots, and other lots within a few blocks of the start. I suggest getting there early to get the closest spots. We will try to get a map which shows parking and also will have volunteers out to steer riders to parking spots. We have identified plenty of parking, but scattered.
