Well Neil, you'll be glad to know, I believe we have an alternative site......the airport!! Won't be that perfect one mile lighted loop, but I think we can make it work. They won't let us use the runways....darn, but some of the other roads will work. We may have to get some generator lights in a couple of spots. Ride will probably start earlier and may have fast riders only for the last hour. Details, details, details.........

Working on trying to find a good date that won't interfere with other events and my work schedule. Stay tuned!

Might have some planes for kids to look at also.

Chris

Dog Days Lunar Ride will be held on Friday, August 9th at Richard B. Russell Airport in Rome, GA. The airport is just off Hwy 27 north of Armuchee High School. Those of you who rode the UTC event went by the airport.

We have not finalized time yet, but will probably be around 8 p.m. and end earlier. Sunset will be at 8:30, so will still be mostly in the dark.

Lots of logistics to work out! Should be fun though.

First Lunar ride at airport was deemed a success, perhaps not financially, but by the comments of the participants. We had about 187 paid participants and then others who were volunteering and people who just came out to watch. The kids, as usual, had a blast. One child was crying "I don't want to go home yet" as the parents headed to the cars.

Our biggest problem was to get the little ones off the course after 9 p.m. No one had the heart to tell them they couldn't ride anymore as they were having so much fun. Some of them found another area to ride in away from the faster riders. They also enjoyed the Chick-fil-A cows who danced and rode a tandem bike around the area.

The riders seemed to enjoy the airport better than the mall, so I hope management will continue to let us hold it on their property.

Glad to see Neil and family at the ride!
