Land of Sunsets Century - Saturday 7/28 - 102 miles - 3550 feet climbing

Revisiting a slightly modified version of a classic on Saturday, July 28.

The route is from Hiram west to the Alabama border and back. The first and last 22 miles are entirely on the Silver Comet Trail. The rest of the route is a mix of local roads and trail designed to avoid steep grades and extended climbs to the extent that it is possible. This route is ideal for those who want to do their first century of the year or or take their mileage to the next level.

The ride starts at the Hiram Trailhead, Silver Comet Trail AKA "The Caboose" at 7:00 AM.

This is a self-supported ride with many opportunities for store stops as decided en route. I will be targeting a +/-17 MPH pace. Faster riders are welcome to form a group off the front and if you can hold 15 MPH then you will not be dropped or left behind.

Severe weather cancels the ride so check the forecast or this thread if the weather looks questionable prior to heading out.

Text or call 678.462.6698 if you have any questions or need directions to the start.

Keeping this ride out there in case anyone is interested.

Nice riding weather is predicted - partly cloudy with a low of 66° and a high near 88°.

This is a pretty flat century by North Georgia standards.

An option is to drive to Rockmart and pick up the ride at 8:15-ish.

Rockmart to Alabama and back is only 56 miles.

It should be a pleasant 68° at ride start time, rising through the 80's as the day progresses.

The plan is to grab a quick second cup of coffee at South Marble Coffee House in Rockmart and then push through to Alabama. Additional store stops will be available at miles 40, 63, 72 and 84.

I'll be at the caboose for a 7 AM start and hope your day is safe wherever you decide to ride.
