Not the way I envisioned riding Alpe D'Huez! There are numerous videos of riders from the qualifying races and the main event as many of the riders sport GoPros. I think last year they didn't have the start up high in the snow due to high winds. In 2016, the snow was soft and very rutted at the start.
The speed some of those lunatics carry downhill on the packed snow is insane. The techniques for keeping upright are interesting. I would be concerned the one leg extended or "outrigger" method could expose yourself to some serious leg injuries but, hey, if you toe the start line at the Mega you've already acknowledged a lot of bad things can happen. The slight right hand turn not far from the start line gets a lot of pileups but nothing like the high speed crashes in that left hander farther down the hill where the rider in the video "ate it". I can't believe there aren't some serious injuries in those spots.
