Post subject: Fall Colors Ride 2017
Here are the details for our annual ride.
Date: November 4th
Place: James H. (Sloppy) Floyd State Park outside of Summerville, GA. 2800 Sloppy Floyd Lake Rd. 30747. Park 706-857-0826. Reservations 800-864-7275.
There are beautiful cabins(like houses!) for rent...2 night min. I think. There are also campsites. Cabins book quickly and may be gone by now.
When entering park, take first turn to Left to go to top of hill of Shelter #2. Restrooms available at the top.
Fee: $5 per car parking fee unless you have a state park pass. I will be at bottom to hand you pass and take your money.
There are 2 routes: 48.2 and 63.9. One sag stop at around 27 miles and another store stop around 38.3 or 54 miles depending on which route you are on.
There will be at least 1-2 sag vehicles for mechanical problems or illness. Please make sure bikes are in working order.
Post ride there will be a food truck, Speakcheesy, probably at the top of the shelter #2 area. If you see parking spaces coned off, this is for the food truck, so do not take those spaces. There are more spaces down at the bottom of the hill, if needed.
CVCA has disbanded and is now just a social club with no dues. We donated most of our money to TRED, who does the UTC ride now. What little money we kept will go to providing you a free sandwich post-ride and drinks. Sandwiches will remain free of charge until we run out of money....after about 60 or so sandwiches. Any riders after the money runs out will be able to purchase sandwich for $7, if they desire. We don't usually have more than 60 riders, so hopefully, everyone will get a free sandwich.
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/10962643 for the short route (will NOT show the turn to go to SAG stop....watch for signs)
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/10962441 for the longer route(will NOT show the turn to go to SAG stop...watch for signs)
Both routes will follow the Chattooga Century stenciled yellow arrows up until the SAG stop around 27 miles. We usually veer off course to the right and set up at the Lucky grocery store. You will see signs.
After the SAG, the longer route will resume following the stenciled yellow arrows until they get to GA-114E at 56 miles. At this point, pick up yellow chevron markers( < >) to Hwy 27. At Hwy 27 go back to following yellow stenciled arrows to park.
The shorter route will begin to follow yellow chevrons marked with S.O.(short option) after the SAG stop, until they join back with the metric route around 36 miles. They will then continue to follow stenciled yellow arrows back to Hwy 114 (mile 40.7). All riders will then follow the yellow chevron markers to hwy 27 . At Hwy 27 S., riders will then go back to following yellow stenciled arrows back to park. Sounds confusing, but is pretty easy to follow.
If you are new to this ride, CHECK WITH ME AT SAG STOP FOR DIRECTIONS TO HEAD OUT, so you don't get on wrong route.
Hoping we will have decent color and temperatures! SAG vehicle can take extra clothes to the end, if you desire.

Reminder of Fall Colors Ride this Saturday!
It looks like this will be the warmest Fall Colors Ride in history, so come enjoy it. The leaves are finally changing and should be pretty, although not peak color.
Hope to see some of the regulars and some new people.

Is there any fee other than the $5 parking? I'll be there with at least one friend.
cycling50 - Nov 03, 2017 - 03:10 PM
No, Brian, just the parking fee. The second sag is just a store stop, so you might need money to buy any food/drink at the store.
If we run over 70 people, the last ones in might have to pay for their sandwich....if they want to buy one. We would love to pay for everyone, but once the money is gone, it is gone. Any extras come out of my pocket.
Glad to see you are coming!
Where is that Forrest fella? Haven't seen him for awhile.

Forrest is currently in California.
Job interviews, I think.

Sorry, I was in Austin on Saturday trying out the BBQ. We went to this place where you order everything by the pound, and they give you only paper to eat it on. In under ten minutes, the brisket, pork shoulder, and sausage had soaked through six layers of paper, clearly showing the pattern of the table beneath.
Unfortunately, I had to see the fall colors from a car this year. I haven't been out on the bike in weeks. I started in GA and went through NC, VA, MD, DE, NJ, NY, PA, OH, IN, MO, KS, CO, WY, UT, NV, CA, AZ, NM, TX, LA, MS, and AL. Fall had touched a month ago in some of those places, and in others, it still hits 90 in the daytime.
