I was at Florence Rd today and there were 9 Bird electric scooters for rent. If you agree with me that they should not be on the trail, please call Cobb county Parks and Recreation at 770-528-8800 and voice your opinion. I did call and the trail manager happened to be in. He said they are not allowed because they are considered motorized vehicles and whoever did this has no agreement with Cobb County to do so. I am not sure what will be done but I hope they get impounded and a citation written to the company. Obviously just my opinion.

I will try and attach a picture

Somehow, electric scooters don't offend me, probably because there's absolutely nothing intimidating about a scooter. It would get others out on the trail, and I don't think that they would present any kind of hazard. Old folks in powered wheel chairs would also fall into the non-offensive category. Granny rolling down the trail at 4 mph would be nice to see, and get her out of the nursing home. - (I actually saw a very senior citizen rolling down the trail in a powered wheelchair)

Now hoverboards are a different story. They're unstable and dangerous, and girls riding them look awkward and unladylike. -Just not a pretty sight.

-Just my opinion.

Seems totally counter productive (unless Granny type mobility as mentioned above) to get out on the trail on anything motorized anyway...

Getting out, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, soaking up vitamin D... As long as they are not endangering others I'm OK with it. From what I understand, scooters travel at a similar speed to a bicycle. Maybe even a little slower.

I HAVE heard walkers complain about cyclists flying down the trail, endangering others because of their relative disparate speeds. -They have a point, and I've seen unsafe cyclists (-and so have you) create hazardous situations by not slowing down in congestion and riding recklessly. Those guys should be shunned!

I think that we should try to get along, but maintain a high standard of safety in whatever we ride. Anything that jeopardizes another should be frowned upon and discouraged.

Tell me. What is it specifically that bothers you about scooters?

I think this is an easy question to answer: motorized versus non-motorized.

If scooters are OK because they travel at a similar speed to a bicycle, what about a motorcycle? Why is one motorized vehicle that sounds like a toy (scooter) OK but another motorized vehicle not allowed? How about an electric motorcycle? Can I ride my electric motorcycle on the trail at 100 mph? What if I mod the scooter so it goes 50 mph? Can I ride that on the trail? What if I ride my gas-powered motorcycle on the trail at 15 mph? What's wrong with that? I'm going about the same speed as a bike so why is my motorcycle discriminated against?

At some point you have to decide what is allowed and what is not allowed. The answer has been, and should remain in my opinion, only manually powered methods of transportation on the trail.

Concession has to be made for motorized wheelchairs.

Only the most callus, hard-hearted person would deny access to the disabled because their chair has a motor.

Some kind of infrared scanner should be installed at mile markers to ensure no one is using motors of any kind.

Sorry, Robert. That was actually directed at Joe Crane. Collateral damage is one of mankind's great struggles.
