Thursday Night Gravel - 29 mi/2100 ft - Thur 6/7 @ 6PM

What: 29 miles and 2100 ft of mixed pavement/gravel in scenic North Paulding County
When: Thursday evening, June 7 @ 6:00 PM
where: Ride starts at Sammy McLure Middle School in the North Paulding High School complex, Dallas

The Thursday Night Gravel Ride traverses some of the most scenic and low traffic roads in North Paulding County. We will ride five gravel sectors and six paved sectors for a total of 29 miles and 2100 ft climbing. Over 40% of the ride is well groomed gravel including Lucas Lane, Narroway Trail, Benson Lake Rd and the fast descent on Mt Moriah Rd. Paved sectors include the climb and descent on Narroway Church Circle and the punchy climb up Burt Rd. A store stop will be available at mile 19.

This is a structured "no drop" ride open to riders of all abilities. We will ride as a group and regroup at strategic points along the route. No one will get dropped or left behind but please consider whether you are able to complete the route before dark prior to deciding to participate. Faster riders are welcome to form a group off the front.

Mountain bikes, gravel/adventure/anyroad bikes, uprights and your wide tire frankenbike are all appropriate for this ride. The route can be ridden on a road bike but delicate racing tires without flat protection are not going to hold up well.

Sunset will be at 8:49 PM and it will be completely dark at 9:18 PM. A 6:00 PM start leaves over three hours to ride. The 10 day forecaset calls for partly cloudy skies and 89° at ride time. Severe weather cancels the ride so check the forecast and this thread before heading out.

Sammy McLure Middle School is in the North Paulding High School complex on Grogan Rd off Harmony Grove Church Rd/Hwy 61/Dabbs Bridge Rd in Dallas. Take Harmony Grove Church Rd east from Hwy 61 or west from Dabbs Bridge Rd. Turn onto Grogan Rd at the light and make the first left into the school parking lot.

Text or call 678.462.6698 if you have any questions or need directions to the start.

Thursday evening should be warm with a high temperature around 90°.

Skies will be clear and with no rain in the forecast before Thursday the gravel will definitely be dry.

678.462.6698 is my cell number if you need information or directions to the ride start.

This is such a great route and more challenging in real life than on paper. I'm going to post it as the "Thursday Night Summer Gravel Series" through June and July.

I had 15.1 MPH average and hit 38+ on the long gravel descent on Mt. Moriah Rd. Polar says 1919 ft. Strava says 2300 ft but Strava lies.

The culvert replacement on Cochran Rd is passable and they set up a Paulding County version of the Arc de Triomphe.

Nice pictures. I take it that someone just parked those hives there for the summer?

I've no idea about the hives but your question is interesting. I wonder if someone is renting the bees? They are at this location...

Another thing you might find interesting Forrest, is that I saw a drone. I don't mean a hobby drone but much larger and could have been fixed wing - difficult to tell due to the distance but it was descending toward the west until it dropped below the trees and out of sight. It was certainly landing at Phoenix Air on Paga Mine Rd.
