Anyone interested in longer rides, 75 miles to century distance?

Bill (black/green Giant Defy) and I discussed a 75 to 80 mile ride after June 2 including Braswell Mountain Rd. I'm interested in doing some climbing along the ridge south of Dallas and Rockmart - Hulseytown, Vinson Mountain Rd, Paris/Everette/Hightower/Cobb Mt., etc.

Maybe POA/Land of Sunsets Century? https://ridewithgps.com/routes/11111047

I'll post something in the upcoming weeks but just putting it out there as an idea for those who might find interest. Post here if you have route suggestions.

This is an unusual variation of the LOS Century.
Skips the loop around the lake west of Rockmart.
Then climbs Zuker, which was taken because the RxR crossings were in bad condition and, at that time, the Silver Comet Trail Loop wasn't completed in the Fish Ck area. There always seems to be dogs on that loop too.
Slaughters Grocery near the border is now closed, unfortunately.
The section after the turn-around, on Brewster Field, I've always found to be tough.
So, the 20+ miles after Cedartown is a mind-numbing 12 miles to the border on the Silver Comet Trail, followed by a couple of tough sections on the return leg to Cedartown. The tendency for most is to work the outbound leg too hard (as it's flat) then not realize the return leg can be challenging.
After the return leg to Farmer's Mkt, getting to Rockmart on a searing hot day can turn into a death march.
Also, don't know if that store on Morgan Valley is open currently, it seems to come and go frequently.

WIsh I was in shape, I miss riding these roads.

I'd welcome a better map of the LoS or any route suggestions at all.

Here is the Land of Sunsets from Rockmart. The map shows a store stop at the state line on the return but as Geek said it is now closed. Not sure if the store in Alabama is open on Sundays. The actual Land of Sunsets route starts in Hiram on the trail out to Rockmart and returns on the trail from Rockmart. If you do that, it is 200K. At mile 45 you can either follow the route and take the trail back to Borden Springs or turn left on 70 and make the climb over Maxwell Gap

Thanks Tom! Been a long time. I hope you are well.

Diane (Dianne?) - used to ride a black Colnago, did 10k miles one year - asked how you are.

This route might require a reconnaissance mission. There are a few gravel roads I've been meaning to check out that way too.

Thanks again.

Hi folks, Bill here (green/black Giant). Land of sunsets, looks like a really interesting ride looking forward to teeing that one up.

Tim,
Yes it has. I am still kicking, sort of. Back problems have kept me off the bike for awhile. I thought I was coming back last year but sad to say even on the recumbent back pain keeps me off the bike. I remember Diane (GapChick). If you see her again tell her I said Hi. Over the years i have ridden with her many miles.

Treat Mtn is one of the really nice gravel roads out there.
If you give me a few days I should be able to come up with a suggested grinder loop.
Treat Mtn is the road directly out of the old Slaughter Grocery driveway in Esom Hill.
Treat Mtn, GunClub, Riddles Purgen would be a brutal trek.

Here's the classic Land of Sunsets Century route, from Rockmart.
Start/finish is the Caboose in Hiram.
Tom linked Rock of Sunsets; don't recall the name. It cut out one of my favorite roads, so I must've been trying to hit a mileage target?

Only a couple of challenging grades on this route, so it's a super endurance builder.
Great for a first Century or early season endurance building.

You are right. I was remembering the Solstice because is a longer ride. Rock of Sunsets is a variation of the Summer Solstice 200k starting in Rockmart that I came up with. When you get old your memory starts fading!

The store on Morgan Valley Rd just west of Hightower Falls Rd is open. I was there today, 5/28.

Not sure how long it will last but it is run by a friendly Cajun guy.

You are not going to get a rare prime rib and a dry red Cabernet Sauvignon served by a career server but they have water, Gatorade, chips, snickers bars and all the other usual bike ride delicacies.
