Ok, is it an assisted living center? Is it a motel? What is that mess under construction behind the trailhead? Best case scenario....assisted living or nursing home. Not many residents would have cars! But 😲 the ones who would!

I read somewhere back it is a combination of assisted living and senior condos. I am guessing the taller building is the assisted living but I am not really sure.

Yes, a senior residence.

Thanks for the info. I knew when I saw that there were no decks or porches, this wouldn’t be apartments! Wonder how crowded the area around trailhead will be with residents out and about?

That part of the trail will never be the same.

Iffin memory serves me correct, WG said part of the complex was going to be dedicated to "Memory Care".

But then I can't remember much anymore.

That's a different development, but that just adds to the concern that there is a rising problem with development along the trail.
With elders venturing onto the trail, it's just a matter of time until a serious accident occurs. Especially with cyclists accelerating off the US278 bridge.
I see speed limits in those sections as a likely imposed response.

The project at Florence is Silver Comet Senior Living

You can see the trailhead in this photo.

The Cobb County tax assessor's site shows the piece of land as being owned by some senior living company that is out of Virginia. I spent a few minutes looking for a way to hyperlink the result but wasn't able to find anything.

You're planting seeds if you keep bringing up speed limits. They wouldn't be enforced in Cobb anyway.

No seeds here, the counties have no interest in our thoughts or opinions.
Right, they'll just post signs.
Probably some sort of Hazard or reduced speed signage.

Cobb's only going to do anything in reaction. I could see them putting up $100k worth of flashing lights to sternly warn those wicked rollerbladers that they had better watch out for kids sprinting out in front of them at the mile 9 playground. A rubber stamp reaction at the taxpayers' cost because the local news or some facebook group "shamed" them into it after the rollerblader crushed a pack of innocent children. Never would there be a mention of the woman who brought the 15 kids and 10 dogs out and was on her phone with her back turned when it happened. How would they react to the innocent children walking out onto 278?

The problem with Alzheimer's and dementia is that they never improve, and putting this place right next to the trail guarantees a constant, fresh supply of them wandering down the trail unless this is a completely shut-in place where the security is tight. Even then, there are always escapees.

I have spent the last several months tracking down a guy with dementia who has been going around all the parking lots and vandalizing cars. Keying cars, bending up license plates, breaking gas caps, etc. and that's just one guy. I did learn a lot about building and setting up quasi-game cameras out of RPi Zero Ws.

There will probably be orderlies stationed all around the property, and cameras.

Sure, the occasional escapee will gain freedom, but anyone spry enough to escape will also stay to the right on the Comet and behave themselves.
